A sign of funny golf stories ahead.

After two rounds at the Bob Hope Classic, Richard S. Johnson of Sweden talked to reporters, including his childhood days as a skateboarder: It was kind of funny, because we always drove by a golf course when I was younger and I always said, "Those idiots are out there playing again, look at that." I mean going out early in the morning. And then all of a sudden I started and got hooked. We were all pretty young when we were skateboarding and I think we all kind of grew up. And I wouldn't think that the guys that I'm skating with, most of them are maybe probably not skateboarders today, it was more of a fun thing to do when we were younger."

Last year Sports Illustrated polled PGA Tour players, asking “If you were forced at gunpoint to vote for the Democratic presidential candidate, whom would you choose?”
Fifty-eight percent preferred Obama to Hillary Clinton. Still, 24 of the 76 pros said, “I’d take the bullet.” We don't if there was a new poll made about Obama's choice for secretary of state.

It might not seem funny to Chad Campbell, but the member of the 2008 Ryder Cup championship team member learned an expensive lesson on a recent trip to Hawaii for the Sony Open. Campbell flew to Hawaii to play in the tournament but had forgotten to sign up. En route from Dallas to Honolulu, Campbell discovered his error. "Not good," Campbell told the Associated Press after he returned home. "I actually thought about it on the plane, that there was a chance I didn't commit. I found out when I got off the plane."
Campbell played one round at another course then headed home.

Finally, a personal story. Back in the early 1980s when I was working at the Amarillo Globe-News, several buddies at the paper and I would play at Ross Rogers Golf Course. On the course there are two tee boxes, one for the East course and another on the West side about 100 yards away. You really have to shank the tee shot to the right to hit the tee box, so it's not really in play. One of our foursome proceeded to shank one right into a group. He apologized profusely, saying "I never do that! Sorry!" So he re-tees the ball, and sure enough, hits into the group again. Instead of walking to his balls, he bows his head and heads down the fairway like nothing happened. The players on the other tee box yell, "Hey, do you want your balls?" His reply: "No you keep them. They aren't doing me any good."
