Tiger third baseman Brandon Inge underwent surgery Tuesday to repair patellar tendinitis in both knees according to the organization.
The procedure was performed at the Detroit Medical Center by Dr. Stephen Lemos and involved the debridement and repair of the patellar tendon in both knees, a statement issued by the organization Wednesday morning stated. A debridement refers to the removal of infected, damaged or inflamed areas of or around the patellar tendon.
Inge will be non-weight bearing for the first six weeks of his recovery as he regains his full range of motion. He is scheduled to begin the strength and conditioning portion of his rehabilitation.
The tentative recovery timetable for Inge has him in line to be ready for baseball activities in February and is on schedule to be with the club at the start of Spring Training.
Inge hit .230 with 27 home runs and 84 RBI in an injury plagued 2009 after revealing problems with his knees in late June.
