Mordred setting up Hybrid Rain for a few good hits in the first match.
Mordred Setting up Hybrid Rain for a few good hits.

Saturday night held a different sort of fight for me as I ventured out on a trip to nearby Highgate to visit the Highgate Sports Arena. That evening, starting at 7:30pm a taste of local color started with the opening of a benefit event run by Main Event Wrestling, a local Vermont wrestling company, to help out the Highgate little league.

The whole event was a good display of local color the main areas of Burlington, South Burlington and Shelburne don't always let outsiders see. Cat calls and verbal jabs were the norm for the crowd and let people just have a good time all around.

There were a total of eleven wrestlers that came out that night for nine matches. All were just flat out fun to watch as the wrestlers continuously tried to keep the audience involved.

Names like, Hybrid Rain, Mordred, Shane Anderson, Bo Calhoun, Howard Extreme and Homeless Harry filled out the roster and flashed impressive moves as they took the hits and dished them out. None moved the ring as much as big Bo Calhoun though. The ring reverberated with his steps as a wrestler of rare size threw his opponent, Shawn Allens, around when Shawn wasn't simply rebounding against the brick wall that is Bo.

The evening itself was commentated upon by one of the active wrestlers of the night, Shane Anderson, which left the air open for some character play and barbs tossed at other wrestlers.

This great night of fun and quick snacks ended with Hybrid Rain winning the open slot title against CJ Summers in the final round of the event.  Family fun and high energy entertainment from a local venue, what more could anyone ask for in a night of local exploration?

Be sure to check out Main Event Wrestling's website and catch more shows to help support this great group of Vermont entertainers.  <http://www.mewwrestling.net/>
