Well it’s not yet the Fourth of July, but fireworks are already happening in Washington. Today during the daily White House Press Briefing, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs faced some tough questions from veteran journalists concerning an alarming report. Yesterday, President Obama held a town hall meeting regarding his proposed health care reform. Well what no one knew, until today, was that each member of the audience was handpicked by the White House and the questions were prearranged ahead of time. No wonder, Mr. Obama always looks so good on tv! Today questions were asked about that and other troubling facts that are beginning to emerge about Obama and the press.

Just last week during the President’s press conference, he prearranged a question with a reporter from the Huffington Post and of course he answered it smoothly. On top of that, another report today provided evidence that the Washington Post was offering “access” to top administration officials in exchange for money. What this means is unclear, but apparently lobbyists and other parties met with officials courtesy of the Post’s contacts. This is an alarming trend in journalism and especially troubling that the White House is actively trying to rig questions.

Longtime reporter Helen Thomas is the one who grilled Gibbs and said afterwards, “not even Nixon tried to control the media like the Obama Administration.” The fact that Thomas said that, a devout liberal herself, shows the lengths of which public perception is being altered by the White House. As expected, Gibbs ducked the questions and no adequate answer was given. I would expect more revelations in the coming days and weeks. The press should be aggressively questioning the Obama Administration about its activities and hopefully people will begin to pay attention to just how far some in our government will go to manipulate us.
