It was announced today that Republican Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will resign. She was up for reelection in 2010 and many were unsure of her intentions. This opens the door to a run for the presidency in 2012. Being the governor of Alaska would constrain any potential candidacy for the Republican nomination due to the distance the state is from the rest of the country. By not seeking reelection, Palin would be free to travel the country and visit early primary states.

Since being on the losing GOP ticket in 2008 as vice president, Palin has kept a relatively low national profile. Despite, the governor not causing controversy herself, she has still been apart of some. David Letterman viciously insulted Palin and her daughter causing a national uproar and former campaign staff members from last year have made negative comments about her.

I am one of those who firmly believe that Sarah Palin did not get a fair shake by the media. Immediately after being introduced to the world, she was savaged by liberals who could not bear to see an attractive Republican woman become the vice president. I think if she plans to run, she has three years to travel the country and reinvent herself from the damage that was done to her. Will she be the savior of the Republican Party? I don’t know, but she is one of the most recognizable conservatives in the country, one will potential. She just needs an image makeover.
