All indicators show that President Obama’s honeymoon period with the press and with Americans may be coming to an end. Over the past week, events have taken place at home and abroad that seem to have shaken everyone lose from their rapture with the president. With Iran going up in flames and the president doing nothing, to soaring deficits and floundering healthcare reform; it appears that everyone has been jolted awake and are now asking the questions that need to be asked and demanding things that need to be done.

Honeymoon periods last for a varying period of time, depending on the President. Mr. Obama’s honeymoon period is about average in length, but unique in the fact that literally everyone was fawning over him. Up until recently, the only people who were critical of the president and his policies were Republicans and the so called “conservative press.” Now that realism has set in, more and more people will begin to ask tougher questions and demand answers. Some will think Obama can do no wrong and is the second coming of Christ. Those people will be ultra liberal Democrats and certain members of the press (MSNBC, the New York Times, Moveon.org, ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, etc.). Since they have no objectivity, their “reporting” should be disregarded as nothing more than commentary.

With the spotlight getting brighter on the president, this will be his time to shine. He must handle the situation in Iran just right. It will remain to be seen exactly how that should be and what will happen there, but I can assure you all that the world is watching and waiting. Mr. Obama must also lead the effort for healthcare reform, if he so chooses to get it passed this year. He must account for all aspects of the plan and make sure there is funding for it. Finally the president must tell his fellow Democrats in Congress to stop spending so much money that we don’t have. His poll numbers are beginning to show weakness, especially with his handling of spending and the rising deficit. If President Obama handles these situations properly, then he will be able to handle the questions asked of him. However if he falters, Mr. Obama will surely look weak and the heat in the kitchen will certainly be turned up, which he may not be able to handle.
