Seventh Day Adventists have a very unique belief system on the state of the dead.
Other Christian faiths teach and believe that once a person passes away, their soul either goes straight to heaven, or hell. But Adventists believe that when a person dies, it is simply a sleep. The Bible says, "All that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth." John 5:28, 29. "David ... is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day." "For David is not ascended into the heavens." Acts 2:29, 34. "If I wait, the grave is mine house." Job 17:13.
These are just a few of the many verses in the Bible that talk about the state of the dead. John Bradshaw, the Pastor of the Lexington Kentucky Seventh Day Adventist church said this in his sermon last weekend "When Jesus called Lazarus out of the grave, he called him out of the tomb... not down, not up..." So the dead are just in a very deep sleep, and shall be until Jesus calls them up with us in His glorious return to take us home with Him forever.
