As we all know, the big news for film this year was the passing of the film incentives bill this past spring. While everyone has been privately cheering this turn of events, it's about time to do some serious public celebrating. Well, the opportunity has come for all Texas filmmakers (and some out of state ones too - we're not bitter you've taken all our business) to get together, clink their glasses, and geek out over the future of the Texas film industry.
Our wonderful hostess for this evening will be Robin Blesch, owner of WPFG studios and creator of the Wolfpack film group. A huge number of sponsors have been solicited for the event, including the expected film groups but also some Texas beer and liquor companies - so it's sure to be a raucous night of fun!
Gear heads will be thrilled to see top-of-the-line film gear on display and in use at the party, which will be held in the 14k sq ft hanger behind Omega Broadcast. Live music will provide entertainment as business cards fly left and right at what is promising to be one of the biggest and best mixers of the year. If the party planners were sitting around wondering what might put the cherry on top of this fabulous evening, they sure got it - the event is COMPLETELY FREE. That's right, no cover charge! There are no excuses for any Texas filmmaker not to be at this event.
To get in, attendees must sign their names on the guest list ahead of time by going to this website and clicking the "I'm interested" button. Also, all attendees must bring one non-perishable food item with them; collected food items will be donated to either Mobile Loaves and Fishes or The Safe Place, two fantastic charities for the homeless. All in all, this event will lift the spirit of the people of Texas and gear things up for the future of filmmaking in the Lone Star State.
