Of all the titles shown during the games presentation at 1C Company's recent press event, the title that got the loudest applause was Rig 'N' Roll, the latest installment in the Hard Truck series.
Not since Sega's 18 Wheeler American Pro Trucker has a trucking game showed this much promise. Where Rig N Roll stands out is in its ambitious size. 1C claims that every major highway in California will be featured, as well as 40 cities and towns as far south as San Diego and as far north as Alturas. There is also the implication of an involving story mode as the game is set in the curious future setting of 2024 (flying trucks are doubtful) and gamers take the role of a young man who aims to rule the Californian cargo transportation market.
The realism is heightened with the inclusion of licensed vehicles. Drivers will be able to get behind the wheels of trucks from the likes of Freightliner, Navistar International, Mack, Peterbuilt, and Kenworth. According to 1C, much has been done to improve the controls, physics, and damage models over the previous Hard Truck releases. Moreover, the user will be able to upgrade their truck both aesthetically and performance-wise.
At this pace, it should take less than a decade for a developer to come up with a truck driving game that features every highway in North America, especially if Google Maps can be of some assistance. Rig 'N' Roll is scheduled to come out in November in Russia, so a North American release should not be too far behind.
