As previously reported, students from the Academy of Art in San Francisco have been hard at work designing LittleBigPlanet PSP levels themed on various San Francisco landmarks. These include Coit Tower, Alcatraz, and the Victorian style neighborhoods. This is a contest where the artists have just 24 hours to create their level, where the prize is a PSP Go that includes a copy of LittleBigPlanet PSP.
We checked in with Eric and Justin from Team Golden Gate. Overall the team has been staying enthusiastic, fueled on pizza and soda. Eric elaborated, "While we thought we did not need to go to the Golden Gate Bridge itself for research, we did stop by the library and picked up some reference books. The level is coming along at a decent rate. We started off focusing on the concept art, then worked on the early designs of the level. From there we did some testing."

He went on to say how the testing process is like a rollercoaster in the most positive way, "Even if we find issues, it's easy to learn from your mistakes and that's a huge plus. With a project like this, you've got to have fun with it. You just come away with a great feeling every time you improve upon something."
If there was one way to describe the direction their level is going, Eric said, "We're developing a very imaginative world, with a very interesting art style. It has many bits of realistic art with hip-hop textures as well."
Justin chimed in, "With this tools set, you can develop your own style, and the choices in direction is really quite expansive. The final product is going to be wonderful and we're feeling pretty good."

When seeing how Team Cable Car was progressing, we happened to catch Nathan coming out of his power nap. They have been managing time by working in shifts as well as staying organized with their development, focusing on getting the gameplay down before working on the art.
Nathan went on to say, "It has been interesting trying to figure out what we can achieve with this PSP version, especially when compared to the PS3. We're the team with a moving icon, so we felt like taking this symbol of the city and mimicking a journey along Powell Street. We're developing details like making the cable car lever work but also designing a large backdrop, making a very playable San Francisco."
Check back at the end of Thursday when Sony Computer Entertainment America and the Academy of Art chooses their winner.
