I’m not a gossip reporter. I can’t stand reporting on the private lives of athletes unless it has the potential to effect their on-field performance.
That said, when “Tom Brady pregnant” is one of the most popular searches on Google in New England, the New England Patriots Examiner should probably at least mention it.
If you believe the rumors, Gisele Bundchen is around two months pregnant and has started telling close friends and family. The proof, they say, is a picture of her taken recently that appears to show a relatively large baby-bump.
I’m not saying she is or isn’t pregnant. But here are the facts, as I see them.
People apparently believe that a two month or less pregnant woman would have a clearly visible baby-bump. My wife says this is complete balderdash. You don’t show until you’re four or five months along.
So the picture floated around the internet this week? Complete crap, unless she’s WAY more than two months pregnant.
Brady was asked during OTAs a few weeks ago whether his significant other was knocked up. His response was a quick laugh and a joke about already having two dogs. Not exactly the response you’d expect from a proud, soon-to-be father.
So, what’s the point to all this?
I have no idea. Frankly, I couldn't care less whether or not Gisele is pregnant. It’s not going to help Randy Moss get open against the Jets’ secondary, and it’s not going to help the Patriots' defense stop the Miami Dolphins’ wildcat.
This tabloid culture we live in is spilling into sports (just ask A-Rod, who was photographed coming out of a party late Saturday night with Kate Hudson when he was supposedly recovering from fatigue). Did we run out of celebrities? Isn’t there another Jon and Kate Plus 8 relative we can convince to turn on them? Stay the heck away from sports!
Sports fans don’t care about tabloids, pregnancy (unless someone on the Patriots is actually pregnant, then I’d begrudgingly admit that it was, in fact, a story worth reporting), or who our favorite athletes are dating.
We. Don’t. Care.
So stop telling us about it.
Let the man live his life. Let him have children if he wants to, or not have children if he doesn’t.
Frankly, it’s none of our business.
