The New England Patriots had a pretty good day on Sunday, and they didn’t even have to leave the comfort of their living rooms.
If you were to draw up exactly what this Sunday would have looked like, it probably would have gone something like this:
New York Jets lose
Buffalo Bills lose
Denver Broncos lose
You may have drawn up an Indianapolis Colts loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but that’s just getting greedy.
The Patriots are now the only team over .500 in the AFC East. The Jets dropped to 4-4 after their 30-25 loss to the Dolphins (who improved to 3-4), and the Bills dropped to 3-5 after their loss to the Houston Texans.
The Miami Dolphins are now 3-0 against the AFC East. That’s something to watch should they pick up a few games on the Patriots in the standings during New England’s tough month of November. Last season, you’ll recall, it was the Dolphins’ 4-2 division record and 8-4 conference record that put them into the playoffs over the Patriots (4-2 in the division, 7-5 in the conference).
Denver, meanwhile, who owns the tie breaker against the Patriots thanks to their overtime victory a few weeks ago, lost for the first time this season. The Patriots are now one game back of the Denver Broncos for the all important #2 seed in the AFC.
The Colts, who just keep rolling over everyone and everything who gets in their way, are now 7-0 and will likely improve to 8-0 next week against the Texans before they host the Patriots in two weeks.
All in all, it was a good bye week for your New England Patriots.
