Ty Law signs with Jets, expects to play against Patriots on Thursday night

Will this be the guy the Jets signed??

Arguably the best cornerback to ever wear a Patriots uniform will be suiting up for the competition this Thursday.

Ty Law, the man who should have been the MVP of the Patriots’ first Super Bowl victory, has agreed to a contract with the New York Jets and is expected to play Thursday night.

Ty Law hasn’t been the same player since he left the Patriots, but he still has great ball skills and is one of the smarter cornerbacks in football.

He’s a good signing for the Jets, but I’m not sure how much he’ll be able to help this Thursday. Law missed all of the preseason, as well as the first nine games of the regular season. It’s hard to imagine that he’ll come into Thursday night’s game in game-shape. Especially considering the fact that the last time we saw Ty Law he was, to be nice, pushing maximum density.

If Ty Law plays, expect the Patriots to test him early and often. And Law knows it.

“I know they’re going to throw at me, but I welcome the challenge.” Law told Adam Schefter of the NFL Network.

The Jets are hoping for a glimpse of the past with Ty Law, but Ty appears to be stuck in the past. At least a little.

“This is going to be different playing Thursday night against the Patriots, matching up against my former team and the players I’m used to practicing against.” Law told Schefter.

The problem is, none of the wide receivers currently on the Patriots’ roster ever practiced against Law when he was in New England. Because none of them were here.

If he confuses Randy Moss and Wes Welker with David Givens and Deion Branch, it’s going to be a long evening for the former All-Pro.

But hey, there are worse things than having Ty Law playing the nickel for your defense. The Jets are a better team today than they were yesterday.

And Thursday night’s game just got a little more interesting…

Other news:

*The league announced on Sunday that Randy Moss had been fined $20,000 for comments about the officiating after the Colts game. If you couldn’t figure out what it was he said that deserved a fine, you’re not the only one. Apparently, the NFL couldn’t figure it out either as they rescinded the fine today.

*The Patriots have still not officially put Adalius Thomas on IR, but all signs point to yesterday’s report being correct and Thomas missing the rest of the season with a broken arm.
