I'm only worth a fourth-round pick? Really?

Given recent events, Patriots fans should send Al Davis a thank-you card.

In case you missed it, the Dallas Cowboys traded three draft picks, including next year’s first-round pick, to the Detroit Lions for Roy Williams.

Roy Williams is a pretty good NFL wide receiver. Put him next to T.O. and you’re certainly going to have an offensive attack that’s hard to stop. Nobody is going to argue with the fact that this move greatly improves an already potent passing game.

Put it this way. Even though Jerry Jones gave up a lot, I’m guessing he’s pretty happy with himself right now.

Imagine how happy he would have been had he gotten Williams for a fourth-round pick?

If you weren’t already convinced that Bill Belichick got the best of Al Davis in the Randy Moss deal, you certainly must be now.

The Patriots were able to get Randy Moss for a single fourth-round draft pick.

Think about that.

They landed themselves a man who would break the NFL record for touchdown receptions in a season. They landed themselves an MVP candidate and future Hall of Famer who would team up with their Hall of Fame quarterback to make up one of the most devastating offensive combinations in NFL history.

For a fourth-round draft pick.

Jerry Jones just gave up a first, third, and sixth-round pick for Roy Williams (and a seventh-round pick). Great guy, I’m sure. Certainly he’s a decent receiver. But in all honesty, he’s not on Randy Moss’ level. Not even close.

Al Davis must be rolling over in his grave.

It’s amazing what Patriot fans thought they were getting in Randy Moss compared to what they ended up getting.

They thought they were getting a guy who was a locker room cancer. They thought they were getting a guy who lost a step. They thought he'd become soft and that he no longer had the top-end speed that made him so dangerous before he got to Oakland.

What Patriot fans actually got was something completely different. On the field, he’s been fantastic. Off the field, he’s been even better. He’s so respected by his teammates that they elected him captain in his second season as a Patriot.

Patriot fans thought they were getting a cancer. They ended up getting a hard worker, a great teammate, and the best wide receiver in football.

For a fourth-round draft pick.
