Prayer - Conversations with God

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Our Father. Jesus taught us to pray, “Our Father.” Jesus did not say to pray to “his Father,” he said to pray to “our” Father. Our heavenly Father is the Father of us all, and He loves us the same way He loves Jesus.

John 17:23
I in them, and you in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that you have sent me, and have loved them, as you have loved me.

It is important to understand the relationship we have with the One we pray to. Yes, He is the God of all creation. Yes, He is the God who spoke, “Light be” and it was. Yes, He is the God who is so mighty that He used many names throughout Scripture to reveal Himself to us because He is so powerful and wonderful that one name alone cannot do Him justice or describe who He is.

He is also our Father. God is no more Jesus’ Father than He is your Father. God is the Perfect Father. He is always approachable, always watching for His children to come to Him.

Matthew 18:1-4
1 At the same time came the disciples to Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
2 And Jesus called a little child to him, and set him in the middle of them,
3 And said, Truly I say to you,
Except you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
4 Whoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus did not say to become a little child, but to become “as this little child.” A little child knows he has to rely upon his parents for provision. A little child runs to her parents for protection. A little child craves the affectionate love of his parents. A little child eagerly looks forward to seeing her parents come home from work, or the myriad of tasks parents have. Little children love to learn from their parents and dream of becoming like their parents. Little children love to run to their parents, be swept up in their arms and loved on.

This is how we are to approach our prayer time with our Father.

All Scripture is given in American King James Version

Do you need someone to pray for you?
