Community Day at the Diamondbacks will be held on Saturday June 27th. This is the first gay group outing at the ballpark. Tickets for the event are $15 with $5 per ticket going to support four local LGBT organizations. Phoenix Pride Scholarship Program provides scholarships to college bound LGBT students. This year six scholarships were provided, up from two in 2008. Another organization benefiting is Equality Arizona the state LGBT organization providing LGBT education and advocacy. Third will be 1 in 10 which is an LGBT youth group. The final organization benefiting is Aunt Rita's Foundation which helps raise money to fight HIV/AIDS.
The organization that has put all of this together is One Community which is an interactive web and events community for gay, lesbian and allied individuals and corporations. Angela Hughey, a founder of One Community says,
“While One Community has organized this day at the ballpark, we hope that this is a true community day that brings our diverse LGBT and allied communities together for America's favorite past-time and that this yearly group outing grows exponentially year after year. There was a recent Gallop poll done that clearly shows that knowing someone gay/lesbian affects your views in regards to gay issues. I think that it's important that the community at large get to know our wonderful and diverse LGBT community, and if our initial conversation is over a hotdog at the ballgame, then that's great!”
The game starts at 1:10pm and features the Diamondbacks vs. Los Angeles Angels. To purchase tickets to the event go to www.dbacks.com/groups sign in: Community Password: baseball
