Google is already getting into the holiday spirit.
The search engine giant just announced starting today, Nov . 10, and running through Jan. 15, 2010, they will offer free Wi-Fi at 47 airports. Boingo Wireless, Advanced Wireless Group and Airport Marketing Income were part of the collaborative team to create this offer and as a result of this project Burbank and Seattle airports will offer free Wi-Fi indefinitely.
To further perpetuate the spirit of the holiday season, Google provides a way for travelers to give. Once logged onto the network at one of the participating airports, travelers will have the option to make a donation to Engineers without Borders, the One Economy Corporation or the Climate Savers Computing Iniative. Google will match donations up to $25,000 and the airport with the highest average donation per traveler by Jan. 1, 2010, will receive $15,000 to donate to a local non-profit of their choice.
Gen Y’ers will surely be a strong presence among the estimated 100 million plus people to pass through the participating airports which include Las Vegas (can you say New Years?), Boston, Houston, Indianapolis, Seattle, San Jose, Orlando and St. Louis. (Visit www.freeholidaywifi.com for a complete list of participating airports.)
