A report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that most of country is sleep deprived. Eventhough Texas did not rank number one, beaten out by West Virginia --there is still a substantial amount of people in the state losing hours of sleep a night.

“West Virginia may have been number one, because of their large majority of high obsesity rates, said experts. Nearly 1 and 5 West Virginians said they did not have one good night’s sleep in the previous month. Tennessee, Kentucky, and Oklahoma were also above average in lacking in sleep." From Mike Stobber, Medical Writer "

As the date rolls in, and we start looking at an underlining problem amongst the United States. First, we must first start looking at why we are having these problems.

Work seems to be an underlining effect when it comes to sleeping patterns. We seem to work earlier, and stay later. We leave a few minutes ahead to out beat the traffic. Somedays you’re in luck, no wreck, then on other days it could take an extra hour. By the time you get to work you’re already in high stress mode. As the day unravels you see it’s already almost six. You now have to rush home to prepare dinner, and try to spend the few hours left with your family. Then soon enough it’s time to attempt to sleep again. You think about tomorrow, and everything that is ahead. It all starts over again. Some people in the workforce have to manage working two shifts to maintain income for their families. Which promotes very odd shifts, which can also be a problem. Whoever said work hours were 9 to 5.

When it comes to dinner more families are looking to Taco Bell for their next family feast. Which provides the body with high calories, and unnecessary saturated fats. Due to the time constraints we are starting to see a very high obesity rate in the United States. Obesity can also be a reason for sleepless nights.

Also with Tivo, social networks, and online surfing it’s hard to manage your time.
When you enter the Internet world, hours seem to pass one minute it’s five in the evening, the next moment it’s ten. Most of us log into a social networking site, such as facebook spend a few moments reading about everyone’s happenings, update, and spend a majority of time on the extra games provided. The internet seems to be consuming all of spare time, which leads us to another reason why Americans are feeling deprived of sleep.

As we venture onto a very high stress society mixed with technology; we find ourselves losing the hours needed for our bodies to maintain their strengths. We are also intaking the wrong nutrients needed to help our bodies function properly, which will also effect sleeping patterns.
