The historic Washington Fire House is a gem of a location located in Conshohocken that many people drive or walk past, but never walk through. I've often walked through the plaza with my camera and marveled at this beautiful location and shake my head at the fact it sits empty. With the summer months upon us, the Conshohocken Farmers Market provides a great opportunity to see this location, while supporting local vendors and farmers. The Conshohocken Farmers Market takes place every Friday in the courtyard by the Old Washington Fire house located on Fayette Street between Elm and Hector. Near the Matsonford bridge it's an easy walk for many local residents and workers.
In its 3rd year the farmers market now has a full-time manager. Carol Smith took on the position realizing that "sustaining a small farmer's market can be difficult", and one thing that the Philadelphia area has is a lot of farmers markets. The Conshohocken market aims to set itself apart by including a few popular anchor vendors, such as Barbeque Ike, and by scheduling specialty artisan vendors that come in on a rotating basis to provide artisan goods such as fudge, soap, cheeses and poultry. Of course you can get the farmer's market staples such as fresh fruits and vegetables, but a weekly visit offers the opportunity to see something new each time.
Smith is working on building the market throughout the year, looking for opportunities to expand it's presence and footprint, and having it evolve into more of a community resource. She is looking for volunteers, free musicians, crafts and additional food vendors. if interested contact her at csmith@conshohockenpa.org.
The Conshohocken Farmers Market takes place Fridays, 10AM to 3PM from May through November
