Jennifer Hudson to perform at Super Bowl; her first performance since family tragedy
Jennifer Hudson will sing the national anthem at Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIII, her first performance since the tragic slaying of her three family members in October. Hudson, 27, first won acclaim on American Idol and then rose to fame for her acting debut in Dreamgirls, a performance that won her an Academy Award.
At a press conference for the game, fellow Super Bowl performer Faith Hill told Access Hollywood reporters,
"She is a strong girl, a girl of faith. I believe to come and perform the national anthem, which is this country's favorite song, at a time that our country is stepping up and moving forward for future generations — I think it's just the perfect choice."
She added,
"I have not spoken to Jennifer, but there has not been a day that's gone by that she has not been in my family's prayers."
Hudson is also scheduled to sing at next week’s Grammys’ MusicCares event. She is up for four Grammys at the Feb. 8 award show.
To have to go through such unspeakable tragedy at such a young age is heartbreaking, but having to do so in the public eye is just unimaginable. I hope that with each day that passes, she relies upon her support system to gain more strength and courage to endure what was undoubtedly the worst time in her life.
