Today’s hip mom must-have is a collection of kids CDs that are favorites in our house. Let’s face it, there’s only so much you can take of the super-saccharin, high-pitched singing and hollering of traditional kids music, especially when it’s perpetually on repeat mode in your CD player. The CDs I picked out below appeal to both kids and parents alike and since there are times when you inevitably get a song stuck in your head all day, you’d rather it be one of these.

This is a delightful CD that features upbeat classics from jazz greats including Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Prima and Louis Armstrong. With songs like ‘Yes, We Have No Bananas’ and ‘Old McDonald,’ your kids will surely be bopping around and getting exposure to a different genre of music. The CD ends with Louis Armstrong’s heartwarming rendition of “What a Wonderful World” – a timeless classic that will remind you to stop and smell the roses.
Justin Roberts’ lyrics transport him and listeners into the playful world of a child. His musical style will make kids laugh, dance and sing. For the animal lovers out there, there’s a great track called 'Best Friend' that chronicles a boy’s relationship with his dog. Very sweet.
Jack Johnson and his incredible folksy and acoustic guitar-minded songs have always been favorites of mine. Remember his hit song 'Flake'? Although the movie Curious George came out several years ago, this CD is still timeless.
Add these selections to your house, your car, any place where music will bring a welcome distraction to kids’ crazy antics. Soon, you and your kids will be singing along to the same songs – but this time, you’ll like it!
