When Oprah Winfrey announced her support for Barack Obama at the beginning of his campaign, she made a vow that she would not use her show as a platform. She kept to her word and although made a few appearances on his behalf at rallies, overall, she remained a quiet supporter. Until now! Since last night, Winfrey has made her feelings about Obama’s win well-known and is now “unleashed” to sing his praises.
While all the broadcast network channels repeatedly panned to her reaction at the Grant Park rally last night, it was evident that the bottled-up emotion and hope she has kept from her loyal fans was no longer hidden. The Chicago Tribune quotes her as saying that last night was "one of the most electrifying and emotional nights I've ever experienced."
On her special election show today, Winfrey sympathized with her viewers who did not support Obama and said, “"But my deepest hope is that in the days and weeks ahead we will all come together with the same renewed spirit that we took to the polls because we need each other now more than ever."
