1/3 lb. beef burger with ham, egg, sprouts & provolone

Forget those uptight burger joints where they don’t allow any substitutions or subtractions – head toward The Counter instead, where you can try your hand at creating your own mouth-watering masterpiece.

The choices here are vast and fantastic – enough variety to create 312,120 different burgers! Your custom burger begins with your choice of meat – beef, chicken, turkey, or veggie patties are all available. Opt for a typical hamburger bun or switch it up with a honey wheat bun or an English muffin – or if you happen to be feeling health-conscious, you can even get your burger served atop a pile of fresh lettuce. It’s the most decadent salad you’ll ever sink your teeth into.

Every burger I’ve had at The Counter has been incredibly moist and delicious, and I often go with the salad option. The sheer number of topping choices can be daunting, but the staff is always more than willing to lend a guiding hand to the faint of heart.

With these phenomenal burger options, what more could you want? Well, how about topping off that meal with a real ice cream shake and some of the best sides ever to grace a deep fryer? The crunchy sweet potato fries are some of the best in the country, and the fried pickle chips are always served piping hot, perfectly paired with a sweet-and-sour apricot dipping sauce.

The 1/3 pound patty starts at $8.25, though you can easily pump that price higher by opting for premium toppings and extra sauces. Stick with the multitude of standard choices to keep your bill low. Fried pickle chips are totally worth it at $4.00 a basket, and for $4.25 you’ll get way more sweet potato fries than even two people can handle!

While it may not be as cost-efficient as the local drive-thru, the quality of the food and the options available – not to mention the welcoming old-school burger joint décor – make The Counter the best cheap burger in L.A. by a landslide.
