The CW’s “90210” follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, “Beverly Hills, 90210,” with the appearance of musical guests.
"Beverly Hills, 90210"/Then: The original series had tons of musical guests over the years. Some fit right into the storyline, such as 1990s band Color Me Badd being stalked by Donna Martin (Tori Spelling) and friends at a hotel. And then some were featured to perform on stage, whether it was at the prom, like Cathy Dennis, or at the Peach Pit After Dark, such as Wild Orchid (with a pre-Black-Eyed-Peas Fergie), Christina Aguilera, and The Flaming Lips, to name a few.
"90210"/Now: The new gang on “90210” also had a special musical guest at prom, with The Veronicas performing in season one (guess the West Beverly High teens are too good for a DJ). Season two, which seems to be placing even more emphasis on music with the release of “Soundtrack 90210,” has brought performances by The Script and N.E.R.D. Even popular deejay Samantha Ronson made a brief appearance.
So, both the old series and the new have focused on popular and up-and-coming artists with guest appearances, songs featured in the episodes, and soundtracks. But which of the two shows do you think has had better musical guests? Who were your favorite artists featured? Sound off in the comments below.
The new “90210,” which airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. (ET) on the CW network, is a spin-off of the original “Beverly Hills, 90210,” which aired from 1990-2000 on Fox.
