Reeve Carney has been cast as Spider-Man. No, not in the upcoming "Spider-Man 4" (where Toby Maguire is still believed to return), but in Julie Taymore's troubled Broadway production "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark." Carney is the lead singer in the rock band Carney, and since this show is supposed to be a rock opera in the style of Broadway hits "Rent" and "Rock of Ages," this casting choice makes perfect sense.
He will be joining Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming. Previews of the show were originally set to begin in February, but the show's premier has been delayed a few times due to cash flow problems, so it's unknown when the show will swing onto Broadway. The only thing certain is that the casting of the title role has been seen as a good thing by many insiders as proof that the show is still making progress and will eventually open.
