The Burlington International, yes International, Airport is "northern New England’s most convenient and welcoming airport." Not sure what northern New England encompasses exactly, but this airport is indeed welcoming, and convenient if you happen to have the need to fly into or out of Vermont.
Fortunately, for the purposes of this series, the Burlington International Airport has a convenient and welcoming bar. What is less fortunate, the bar is only open 'til 7:00pm, and is located on the civilian side of the security gate. Find yourself in this jewel of northern New England after seven o'clock, or at one of its departure gates, and you might feel slightly less welcome.
For the well-prepared traveler, and the unhinged drinker, there is relief. Located between gates 1 and 1A, and gates 8 and 9 are vending machines. The prepared and compulsive are keen to anticipate the potential catastrophe of an airport with an unreachable bar, and commonly travel with their own hooch--in TSA-approved containers of 3.4 ounces, or less, of course.
For much less than the cost of a drink, had you been able to get to the bar, purchase a Sprite or Fanta and mix your own.
The well-prepared, frequent traveler understands that vodka draws less attention than Captain Morgan, Jack Daniels and other tinted liquors, and is more readily passed through security. Vodka also mixes delightfully with soda, Fruitopia and the various sundry beverages you are likely to find in an airport vending machine, including those in northern New England.
