When a person takes on multiple tasks of responsibility they are considered to be “wearing many hats.” With a proud smile Brook Blander exclaims, “I wish I had more heads for all the hats that I wear.” Brook Blander is a designer, journal maker, writer, web builder, humanitarian, mother and CEO. She is the head of Niara Innovations Design Studio, a company that is involved with web and graphic design. She also heads up Ebony Lotus, an organization that focuses on book publishing and Brook’s own hand crafted Journals. Brook has seen much success through her creative efforts in recent times. Her magnificently designed journals have caught the attention of many and are repeatedly ordered online. Brook personally names each one of her hand made journals. She crafted a special journal for a lady in California to write prayers in as she studies to become a Chaplain for ill children. Brook says that each journal carries a unique energy. She puts her own conceptualization into making each one. The journals come in a variety of colors and the covers are made from leather, suede vinyl and other materials.
Brook has published four books two of which are poetry collections. . She looks to expand the publishing side of her company by offering writers a great way to package their product. Fiction writing has always been Brook’s first love. She was drawn from journaling into poetry. “Journaling felt too explanatory, but poetry oozed from the wounds of my soul in such an intense and lyrical way that I could not stop. I simply could not stop,” mused Brook. She feels that poetry allows a release of her inner most thoughts and emotions in a way other styles of writing do not.
Brook’s fondness of African culture inspired her to name her company Niara Innovations. The word Niara means high purpose in its English translation from Swahili. Brook actively works to create a dynamic force for a higher purpose. A sales percentage from Brook’s company is donated to organizations that help abused women find safety. Haven and Take Back The Night are some of the organizations Brook supports and hopes others will too. She feels awareness and action must be taken to prevent and stop violence in the local community especially against women and children.
Brook has a strong love for her family and a desire to create a stable foundation for future generations. Brook recently released her fourth book titled “Personal”. “This book settles into the truths of self, family, society, love and the waters that have passed under the bridges of life offering a compilation of poetry, Haiku, prose and journal entries from the reflections of it all.” For more check out www.brookblander.com.
