The new ABC Family show Ruby & The Rockits brings musical family fun to the small screen with Alexa Vega as the singing star, and former teen idol David Cassidy as one of her dads.

David's brother Shaun, also once a teen idol, is the producer of the show, along with Ed Yeager. And a third Cassidy brother, Patrick, stars as well, together with Austin Butler, Kurt Doss and Katie Amanda. 

Ruby & The Rockits tells the story of Patrick Gallagher, former teen idol who lives a life away from the spotlight with his wife and two sons until his brother David reappears in his life. Also his former band mate with The Rockits, Patrick's brother brings his recently found teenage daughter with him, Ruby, also musically inclined. The conflict? David is now responsible for his daughter, but does not want to give up on his life as a performer. Consequently, he hopes Patrick will help him raise Ruby while he continues to pursue his dreams of stardom. 

Written by developer Shaun Cassidy and producer Ed Yeager, Ruby & The Rockits shows young actress Alexa Vega in a new light, singing. She is remembered as Mabey, a member of the Bluth family in the sadly cancelled FOX comedy Arrested Development.  

Ruby & The Rockits premieres on Tuesday, July 21st on ABC Family at 8:30pm EST.
