Selena Gomez, an ambassador for the group, invites fans to trick-or-treat to help UNICEF.

In September this year, Selena Gomez was named an ambassador for UNICEF, becoming the youngest one ever at seventeen years of age. The star of Disney Channel's Emmy winning show Wizards of Waverly Place has since then been an active representative of the group. She travelled to Africa not long ago, and talked about it on the Today show, where she said, "It was completely life-changing and eye-opening, and when we came back we definitely had nothing to complain about."

On the same show, Selena Gomez talked about the importance of being able to raise awareness about important issues, bringing them closer to fans who otherwise might not have heard about them. "That's why I feel very honored to have a voice that kids listen to and take into consideration," she said, adding, "I had people on my tour asking me where is Ghana, and they Googled it ... and because I went there, they now know where Ghana is. So it's pretty incredible."

Now, Selena Gomez is asking fans to get even more involved, and avoid too many sweets while they do so. Via her Twitter account, she says, "Join our team and help raise 1 million dollars for Trick or Treat for UNICEF." Fans can also get connected on Facebook and share their thoughts and plans about the UNICEF project, which encourages kids to get in their costumes and go trick-or-treating on Halloween, but to add a variation to the system: ask for spare change instead of candy. There is a goal of $1 million dollars, and Selena invites her fans to join the team, and help reach that goal. Additionally, she made an announcement regarding prizes for the top 3 earners.
