Here’s an AP story on the latest developments surrounding the controversial Magna Corporation bankruptcy fire sale, which basically tells us nothing.
Despite the financial furor and allegations of fraud that have erupted nationally, and whispers of unusual developments surrounding the bankruptcy auction of the Oklahoma City Magna property, Oklahoma press stays silent.
Okay, we know it’s not an easy story, like car wrecks or homicides or town hall meetings. But the deaf, dumb and blind Oklahoma press should be embarrassed. And we know some reporters are seething about how an out-of-state blog keeps on breaking stories they won’t. But the truth hurts, and Oklahoma media is either too lazy or too timid to tackle tough stories like the Magna controversy. And we know why: the media is afraid of losing tribal advertising dollars.
Meanwhile, there buzz inside the financial world is increasing about exactly what is happening with the Oklahoma Magna property. Rumors persist that the winning bid came AFTER a court-approved timeline, and well after all other bids would have been known, a prime time for insider mischief. If so, the creditor group suing Magna will go ballistic, and revelations during discovery will embarrass Oklahoma once again.
It smells stinky, and Magna is under the microscope everywhere but Oklahoma. We don’t know if the Magna Board is loaded with crooks, but if they are, they can probably count of Jeff McMahan’s favorite group of journalists to go into the tank for them!
