So this is my first actual straight up review of a film. It's also been the most recent movie I've seen in theaters that I haven't fallen asleep during. Star Trek.

I'll keep this short and sweet. Star Trek is a phenomenal film. In every aspect, J.J. Abrams and his team have created the perfect start to a possibly new generation a Star Trek films. They achieved the tone, look, humor, feel, and pretty much everything else that made the original series great. The casting was absolutely spot on. Chris Pine nailed James T. Kirk even down to the Captain Kirk-in-pain facial expression. Karl Urban couldn't have been a more perfect pick for Leo McCoy. The list pretty much goes on and on. Simon Pegg was also an unexpected hilarious surprise and he could have said "I'm givin' her all she's got!" a hundred times and it wouldn't have gotten old.

The special effects were also top notch. It hands down includes of the best special effects driven scenes I've been taken aback by in a recent movie. The U.S.S. Enterprise warps into an entire fleet of destroyed ships. The amount of moving debris and camera movement rendered is really an impressive sight. The mere scope of everything really also makes you feel like you're in and around these massive ships and space stations.

Well, without giving away any specifics of the twisting and turning plot, I will say that it is very....Star Trek-ish. The changes that were made to the Romulan race was a little questionable. But the main story revolving around the theories of black holes was just far fetched enough for it to still be digestible. All in all I advise any Star Trek fans to go see this movie. Anyone that has never even watched Star Trek or non-fans should still go see it. It's filled with enough "un-Trekkie" material that it will please anyone.
