John Candy in "Uncle Buck"
So as everyone may know (and for the people that have already retreated to their homemade bomb shelters) the economy is doing really well.
Actually, the following statement was an outright fabrication.
So OK, being a consumer these days isn't all that it could be. Most of us probably don't have jobs. Most of us are also probably bored and collecting (or attempting to collect) unemployment, wishing we had a good movie or something to pass the time with. Be bored no more, here are some great movies about the jobless or the pursuit of a job that should put your mind thinking in the right direction.
We'll start off with the obvious.
"Pursuit of Happyness" is the Will Smith film that isn't about him saving the world. It's a heart warming story about a man and his kid trying to make it in the big city. A bit cliche at times, a bit overly depressing at times, but all in all you'll be grinning from ear to ear when Will Smith figures out the Rubix cube in about .4565th of a second. Oh and it's all a true story.
"Uncle Buck" is not really about trying to find a job, but it does feature a hilarious jobless John Candy. He basically has to house-sit, dog-sit, children-sit, and teenager-sit at his brother's suburban home. I'll let this clip speak for itself:
The next film I present you with is "the Full Monty". Just think Zach and Miri become 6 male strippers.
The last film I'll leave you with is "Swordfish". C'mon, if this movie doesn't take your mind off things then you probably need a louder surround sound system. Topless Halle Berry, enough explosions to make Michael Bay pop a you know what, and John Travolta. It's also not exactly about someone trying to get a job, but it is about A secretive renegade counter-terrorist who co-opts the world's greatest hacker (who is trying to stay clean) to steal billions in US Government dirty money. Capitalism at it's best!
Right? So hit up your local movie rental store and pick up these classics or soon to be classics about the ongoing pursuit of obtaining debt represented in paper form. That is, if your local movie rental store hasn't already gone out of business.
