The best of E3 2009 from Sony's point of view would definitely have to be the reveal of Team ICO's newest title, the announcement of a new Metal Gear game from Hideo Kojima, Final Fantasy XIV: Online (which no one saw coming) and the reveal of Sony's answer to the Wii.

Like Microsoft's E3 2009 Press Conference and, to a lesser extent, Nintendo's E3 2009 Press Conference, Sony had a deluge of both hardcore titles and casual affair meant to appeal to an even broader audience.

Here is what was shown, revealed, and announced at E3 2009 from Sony.

* Sony started the show off by touting the success of the PS3's predecessor, the PS2. The console is in its 9th year and Sony is dedicated to its continued support so long as consumers remain interested and it continues to sell.

* There are over 2,000 titles available for the PS2 in North America including over 122 of today's biggest games.

* Sony believes that today's PS2 users are tomorrows PS3 consumers.

* Sony then showed off one of the PS3's biggest upcoming titles: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. With a 15-year standard of pushing Sony systems to their limits, Naughty Dog will be doing no less with their latest game and will offer a cinematic experience "unlike anything else out there". They stated that the multiplayer beta is ongoing now and you can get in on the action by buying Infamous which comes with a code to enter the Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta (do it soon, only the first print run has the code).

* A new trailer was shown for MAG (Massive Action Game), which was announced at the last E3. MAG's release date is this Fall.

Here is part 1 of Sony's E3 2009 Press Conference:

* Sony announced Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines for PSP from Ubisoft. It will release on November 10, 2009.

* Sony announced an all-new PSP called "PSP Go", which he jokes was E3's "worst kept secret" (the handheld had been fully revealed days earlier). The system will lack a disc drive and support downloadable titles only (a first for the industry). It also has a sliding design like a cellphone. It will release worldwide on October 1st this year for $250.

* To go along with the new download-only nature of the PSP Go (which will sell alongside the PSP 3,000 and not replace it), Sony announced a new Media Go application. This allows you to access all your PlayStation Network media from your PC. Videos from the PlayStation Network will also now be available for download to the PSP directly from the PSN on the PSP.

* Sony then showed off Gran Turismo PSP. The game is a full-fledged Gran Turismo title on-par with the previous console entries in the series. It will include 800 licensed cars, 35 tracks with 46 variations, 4-player online play, car swapping between garages and will feature the return of the mission challenge mode including legacy license mode. It will also focus more on getting together with friends to race and includes the ability to exchange cars with others in order to "catch them all", if you will.

* Hideo Kojima made an appearance to announce an all new Metal Gear game called Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for PSP. The game is a direct sequel to Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and takes place 10 years after that game; now set in the 1970s in Costa Rica with 4 Solid Snake clones. Hideo himself is writing the script along with the MGS4 development team. The game is a sequel and not a spin-off. It will release in 2010.

* An all-new Resident Evil PSP exclusive is coming, though no details were announced. It will be a new game in the series and will be released in 2010.

* Sony went on to praise the PlayStation Network (PSN), their online front where users can download games, demos, movies, TV shows and interact and play games online with friends. They stated that over 24 million people have registered for the PSN in 55 countries. Over 475 million pieces of content have also been downloaded and there are 90 PS3 exclusives that support online features. Additionally, they will be adding over 50 PS1 classics to the PSN this year.

* PlayStation Home meanwhile, their avatar-based 3D chat service/MMO hybrid, has reached 6.5 million users worldwide after it launched six months ago. Jack Tretton of Sony claims 85% of that number are return users.

* Rockstar announced a new PS3 exclusive called "Agent".

* Sony then brought onstage Patrice Desilets, the creator of Assassins Creed, to discuss Assassin's Creed 2. In AC2, Desmond returns to visit a new ancestor in the Animus named Ezio. The game takes place in the Renaissance and is set in Venice, Italy. Leonardi Davinci will play a large part in the game and supply you with many of his gadgets, including a flying machine that allows you to hover over the city. Ezio will have a number of new abilities including the ability to assassinate two people at once! There will be 30 weapons in the game and those who link up with Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines on PSP will be able to unlock an exclusive weapon. Assassin's Creed 2 will be released this holiday.

* Sony then revealed one of the biggest surprises of the show, the PS3-exclusive Final Fantasy XIV: Online! The game will be released in 2010.

Here is part 2 of Sony's E3 2009 Press Conference:

* Following that, Sony revealed their answer to the Wii, and it's drastically different than Microsoft's Project NATAL. Their motion sensing controller (which was just a prototype) looked like two rods with balls at the end (no that is not a sexual joke). Ahem. And it uses the PlayStation Eye camera to allow the game to track the controllers (you can only use one or hold one in each hand). They showed off some cool technical demos. One of them used the camera to actually display the person on-screen. They then were able to switch between several virtual items which they literally held in their hands (the Motion Sensing Controller being your weapon). By swinging the controllers the object in their hand would swing with perfect 1:1 "sub-millimeter" timing and accuracy. It's so accurate in fact that in another portion of the demo the player was able to write his name in the air (and thus onto the background wall in the game) perfectly. Sony also stated how the controllers could even allow you to "wrap your arms or reach around an object or enemy" something that is probably not possible with the Wii. Finally they showed a demo where the player was attacking a human-shaped object with a sword (with realistic physics) and then attacking groups of enemies with a bow-and-arrow; which he would shoot off by literally reaching behind his back to pull an arrow out of the quiver and then would have to make the correct motion to shoot it. These last demos looked more like what you would actually see in a real game. The PS3 Motion Controllers will be released in 2010.

* Sony then revealed a new racing game called Mod Racers, developed by "United Front Games". It's a new title in Sony's "Play.Create.Share" line, which includes the previously released LittleBigPlanet from Media Molecule. In Mod Racers, like LBP, you can fully create and customize every aspect of the game, doing for kart racers what LBP did for platformers. Players can easily create expansive environments using a unique editor that literally allows you to lay down the land (or track) as if you were driving your car. You can then share your created tracks online or download new tracks from others. It will release in 2010.

* And in one of the most anticipated unveilings of the show, Sony officially announced The Last Guardian, the name of Team ICO's newest title. Team ICO was responsible for the titular ICO and Shadow of the Colossus titles that were big hits on the PS2. A trailer for The Last Guardian under it's "Project TRICO" nickname was leaked before the conference however, and in the new trailer that they showed for the game much of it was the same as the leaked video. However a lot more of the game was shown.

* Second to lastly, Sony showed off an all-new trailer for Gran Turismo 5.

* Finally, they ended with a bang by showing off gameplay footage of the highly anticipated sequel, God of War III. Which is due for release March of 2010 exclusively for PS3.
