Patrick Rothfuss, who wrote the critically hailed debut novel, The Name of the Wind, wants to put your name in the sequel. Yes. There's a catch. Or, not so much a catch, as an opportunity.

The Name of the Wind begins the tale of Kvothe—from his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, to years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-riddled city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a difficult and dangerous school of magic. In these pages you will come to know Kvothe as a notorious magician, an accomplished thief, a masterful musician, and an infamous assassin. But The Name of the Wind is so much more—for the story it tells reveals the truth behind Kvothe's legend.

The Name of the Wind received rave reviews from all sides and drew in an enormous fan base for Rothfuss, which eagerly awaits the sequel, The Wise Man's Fear. This will be followed up by a third volume which should complete the tale. So how do you get your name in this upcoming novel?

Rothfuss is a big supporter of Heifer International, which strives to end world hunger by providing farm animals and other supplies to needy families across the world. Rothfuss is going to determine who wins this contest by way of a raffle that will support this organization.

There are several ways you can get your name in the drawing. Rothfuss details them further on his blog, but here is the basic rundown:

You can...

1. Buy tickets to enter the raffle. These cost $10 each. For every $50 you donate, you'll get an extra ticket for free. Tickets can be purchased online or by snail mail. Contact information provided below.

2. There will be a free raffle option, which involves sending a 3x5 notecard with the proper information (again, detailed on the blog) to Rothfuss. If you enter the paid raffle, however, don't send a second entry to this one, lest you incur his wrath.

3. Lastly, Rothfuss admits that he might just pick any random name that sounds cool to him and include it, whether the entry comes from an officially picked winner or not. So there's always a chance yours might catch his eye.

The point of this all is, of course, to help raise support for Heifer International. All proceeds will be going directly to their organization.

There are a few caveats to the raffle, such as Rothfuss retaining the right to alter your suggested name enough so it fits in with the fantasy world he has created. Paypal donation links are available on the blog post.

For those wanting to mail in your entry, here's the address:

PO Box 186
