While the Buffalo region may not be known as a hotbed of traffic tribulation, there are still some methods that are better than others when it comes to getting to your favorite sporting event.

Following are a few recommendations for how to get to your next Buffalo Bills, Sabres or Bisons game.

Bills: Ralph Wilson Stadium is located at 1 Bills Drive in Orchard Park. The stadium is fairly locked in, with only a couple major roadways granting access, so make sure you leave early.

Route 20 (Southwestern Boulevard) and Abbott Road are the two main roads that cross the stadium. Most travelers from the north, south or east will want to get to these roads via Interstate 90.

From Canada (via the Peace Bridge), head south on Internstate 190 to 90 West, and then follow to exit 55 (Route 219). Exit 219 at 20A West. Follow 20A to the stadium, which is about one mile west. You can also head south on I-190 to Route 5 and follow Route 5 to Route 179 (Milestrip Road). Take 179 East to Abbott Road.  Make a right turn onto Abbott Road and head south to the stadium.

From points north and east, take I-90 West to Exit 55 (Route 219) and follow the same route as above. Fans from the north will want to take I-190 to get onto I-90, which will see extensive delays.

When leaving the game, don't rush. There will be a lot of traffic around the stadium and on all major thruways, so have a beer and toss the ball around for a while.

Sabres: HSBC Arena is located at 1 Seymour Knox Plaza in downtown Buffalo. Drivers can take I-190 to either exit 5 or 6 (regardless of the direction you're traveling from) and follow the signs. There's plenty of parking in the two- to three-block radius aorud the stadium, so don't think you need to park a mile away.

The method I prefer (at least when traveling from the Tonawandas) is to take the Metro Rail downtown. it's cheaper ($5 or so vs. $10 or more) and there are no crowds or traffic to deal with. This method is only practical if you live in the city of Buffalo or travel to Amherst/Tonawanda, though; otherwise, it's too far out of the way to be worthwhile.

You'll hit some traffic when leaving the game, but otherwise the drive shouldn't be too bad.

Bisons: Coca-Cola Field is located at 275 Washington St. You can get there via the same directions as for the Sabres game, as the ballpark is only two blocks from HSBC Arena. The Metro Rail will also drop you off a block from the stadium via the Seneca Street stop.

Parking is cheaper ($5-$7) than for a Sabres game. Traffic is basically nonexistent.
