The Buffalo Bisons may be having a horrendous season on the field, but that shouldn't stop area families from trying to set foot on the field prior to an upcoming.
In one of the most interesting promotions for the team to offer of late, the Bisons are auctioning off the chance for a family to throw out the first pitch for any regular season game. The auction ends at 5:42 p.m. July 13, with the winning four-member family gaining access onto the field prior to the game of their choosing; one family member gets to throw out the first pitch for that game. The family also receives tickets, food and drink vouchers, and souvenir baseballs.
The Bisons are known for creative promotions, with recent appearances by the Famous Chicken and Mets legend Darryl Strawberry drawing well. The team also has its Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra postgame concert coming July 3, which is always followed by fireworks and always brings in a huge crowd. Other upcoming promotions include a youth jersey giveaway July 8, fireworks display July 18 and a backpack giveaway July 29.
Having dropped their record to 26-49 thanks to their ongoing four-game losing streak, the Bisons could use any help possible to bring in fans. The Bisons are still in the middle of the International League in terms of attendance, with the average attendance of 6,676 placing Buffalo seventh in the 14-team league. But not that long ago, that number was well into the five-figure range, and team officials are no doubt lost as to what to do to turn around fan interest in this lost season.
