This time of year rocks. Whether you are a passionate NCAA basketball fan or have no clue who Coach K is, you can appreciate March Madness. Everyone can get in on the hoops action by filling out a bracket and anyone -- I mean anyone -- can come out a bracket champion. We have a girl in our office pool who picked her teams based on A) if she liked their mascot or B) to which state she would prefer to travel if she had to pick between the two. The thing is, she has just as much chance to win as the next guy or girl. Case in point? She is currently beating me in our pool. Granted, it's early, but it still gets my blood boiling.

March Madness would be nothing more than March Mildness without each year's share of first round upsets. A No. 9 seed beating a No. 8 seed isn't a big upset -- we're talking the annual 12 vs. 5  or 13 vs. 4 shocker that happens every year. This year, the first round upset crown goes to No. 13 seed Cleveland State, who pummeled No. 4 seed Wake Forest -- a team that many people had going to the final four in their brackets (thankfully, I wasn't one of them.)

I’m sorry to a lot of people that we broke their brackets,” Cleveland State forward George Tandy said. “But we had a lot of confidence. We were prepared.”

Other first round upsets include No. 12 seed Wisconsin over No. 5 seed Florida State in OT (yours truly did have the Seminoles winning two games, so that one hurt), (11) Dayton over (6) West Virginia, and a solid win for (12) Arizona over (5) Utah. That brings us to No. 8 seed Ohio State. They dropped in the first round to (9) Siena in double OT. While not a huge seeded upset, it was THE Ohio State losing to a tiny school from upstate New York and I could hear squirming seats across town as the Buckeye faithful egos were deflated. For you Buckeyes who may be reading this column, no, Georgia did not even make it into the tournament. Our basketball program is weak and I accept it, but feel free to rant in the comments section.

This year is shaping up to be no exception to the madness -- any big upset predictions out there from you readers? Good luck in your brackets and may the best man or woman win -- even if the choice was based on team colors.
