LA Farmers Market 75 years
75th Anniversary Banner , photo by Randy Lewis

You are cordially invited to celebrate the 75th birthday of the LA Farmers’ Market. In its long and storied history it has played host to Hollywood’s elite, residents and a myriad of tourists. From its inception it is more a destination than a market. “Meet me at 3rd and Fairfax” is the common axiom. On the 16th of July 2009 a ceremony marking its distinguished place in our hearts as Angelenos will begin promptly at 8am. If you cannot wait to celebrate, their calendar of events is available on their website as well as a full history and some candid photos.

The beauty of this venue is its simplicity. The unpretentious air of the market in all its gracious vendors makes guests feel right at home. As you stroll from the parking lot through the aisles, you will feel the joyous nostalgia this market raises. Classic does not begin to describe this world-class destination. It is no wonder by 1940 this little idea was a huge success. It is the variety, simplicity and dedication to both the farmer and the community that has made this “idea” a reality.

While you are at the market be sure to stop by Bennetts for a Fancy Nancy cone or a Bennett Bar. You may even wish to lunch at the pain vin et fromage while sipping on one of their fine wines. If you are a nut lover be sure to visit Magge’s and enjoy them raw, roasted, sated, sugared or churned into the best nut butter you have ever had. You will of course find a wealth of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and seafood but the certified organic market is only there on Friday and Saturday. This ever growing “idea” is a triumph and will be here for our children’s children as a testament to enterprise and simplicity.

Feel free to contact me with your ideas, questions and requests.
