You have to admit, you love to shop. Who doesn’t love to shop? Purchasing new items at Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada and Juicy Couture always makes my heart twinge with happiness. The scent of a store, seeing other joyful customers, trying on that perfect outfit and then finally walking out knowing the items you have in your bag are all yours. And you’ve worked for them. At that moment, you are in pure bliss.
Meet Rebecca Bloomwood. Profession: journalist. Unfortunately, for Becky, she is unemployed. She longs to be a writer for a fashion magazine, however, ends up writing for “Successful Savings,” the money magazine. The problem is Becky is over 9,000 in debt. She has a major shopping problem. This shopaholic soon falls for her sexy boss Luke (Hugh Dancy). However, with her so-called “shopping secret” will a relationship with Luke ever be possible? Find out in the fabulous “Confessions of a Shopaholic” which is also based on a series of novels by Sophie Kinsella.
I absolutely adore “Confessions of a Shopaholic.” It is a fun, sweet, warm, film that you will you will fall in love with right from the start. Becky Bloomwood, played by the adorable Isla Fisher, is one of those characters you cannot turn away from. She is witty, smart, funny and sincere character. She is not one of those characters that has to act dumb to get attention. You actually want to root for Becky instead of going against her. While this movie can be a bit predictable at times, it is still fun to watch with your friends. It is guaranteed that it will put you in a fantastic mood.
Some people and critics did not feel like this film came out at the right time because of our world’s economic crisis. In my opinion it came out at the perfect time because it tells a story about a girl who is having her own economic crisis. Instead of whining about it, she stands on her own two feet and actually does something about it. Just because some people cannot afford spending thousands of dollars on designer clothes, does not mean you cannot enjoy this film. Just think of it as a fantasy; it is a Disney film anyway. When watching this one hour and forty-five minute film, you are totally immersed in Becky’s world. And Becky’s world is not perfect; just like our world is not perfect.
Fisher and Dancy did a terrific job with their roles. As a reader of the series, I could not see anyone else play the roles of Becky and Luke. Fisher and Dancy had great chemistry together, especially in the Miami scenes (which were my favorite scenes in the film). Fisher, who was also in “Wedding
Crashers,” is always good at physical humor and making an audience laugh. The kind of humor found in the film reminded me of “I Love Lucy” type humor which is the best type of humor out there. Dancy looked awkward at times throughout this film, however,h is character is supposed to be rather unsure of himself, as well as, stuffy acting. Dancy is always a pleasant surprise and great to look at, as well. I hope to see more work from both of these actors in the future.
Do yourself a favor and see this film. It is a great film to watch with your girlfriends, or gay friends especially on a rainy Florida night. I guarantee you will love it! It will make you want to go out and shop til’ you go into debt ( just don’t get too much into debt).
