It’s finally here. After years of anxious waiting and persistent rumors, Ted Dekker has released the fourth book in his Circle “Trilogy,” titled Green.
When Dekker first released the trilogy, he was a moderately successful Christian author with a number of popular novels under his belt. But in 2004, he released, in rapid succession, three books for which he is now identified, and by which all of his subsequent releases are shaped.
The original trilogy told the story of Thomas Hunter, a man who, whenever he falls asleep, finds himself in another world, as real as our own. Populated by giant talking bats and innocent people, the world finds itself plunged into a war between good and evil, a war which Thomas Hunter has a large role to play, while he jumps between our world and this other.
The books, as odd as they seem at first glance, have become wildly popular. Like The Chronicles of Narnia series, they use fantasy as an allegory to teach spiritual lessons. Often these lessons are made in a profound new way. Also, Dekker’s writing ability has always been good enough to keep every reader captivated, not at all distracted by the talking bats, no matter how weird the subject matter may seem.
Dekker left the first trilogy with many, many unanswered questions. After the success of the initial books, he started answering questions and dropping clues in obscure places in seemingly unrelated books. In the past five years, he has built up quite a cannon for those with the patience to dig for answers.
Now, a fourth book continues the trilogy. This time around, Samuel, Thomas Hunter's cherished son, has turned his back on his father. He gathers the dark forces to wage a final war.
For those who finally want answers without having to dig through Dekker’s other books, Green is a must-buy. And for those who want an edge-of-the-seat thrill ride through weird, weird places that tells profound spiritual lessons, the four-book trilogy is a must read.
