Recently, Kate lost her dog, Juliette, after ten years. Juliette passed away due to mammary cancer and even after she passed on, she still felt her presence in the house. Several people feel that their beloved pets are still with them even after their physical form is no more and it prompted the question, “Does a pet have a soul?”
Without saying simply, “Yes, your pet has a soul” as most pet owners likely suspect, explaining a soul in its barest form without going into high metaphysics is needed.
When a sentient being projects an aura, it is a good indication that it has a soul. When someone sees an aura, the aura is the physical manifestation of the soul. Because people see or sense the soul emanate from the physical body, people tend to think that a soul is housed inside the body. However, the claim can be reversed that the body is actually housed inside the soul. Since the soul is more than just a body, it radiates outside of it, so we can see the aura.
All animals that we encounter project an aura. Even when a cat is sitting perfectly still making no noise, its owner can detect if the cat feels at ease or if it feels aggravated by the feeling the aura that cat is projecting. Granted, it might be difficult to think of a pig having a soul when you're eating bacon for breakfast, but it may be easier to think that the energy of others helps sustain us, whether it be by consumption or by companionship.
We can do this with people as well even though we can detect facial and body cues that lead us to conclude what a person is feeling or thinking nonverbally. When we casually say, “He seems approachable” or “I'm getting bad vibes from that woman,” this is usually in reference to the person's aura or her “vibration.”
Pets, when they care for others, have an empathy to the people they are associated with because they are feeling our vibrations. This sense is natural for animals because if these animals were in the wild, they would need these senses for their survival. Since humans have verbal communication and we have human intelligence, this sense is generally not as developed in us than in our pets.
Kate relayed a story that what made Juliette very special was that she was the one that brought her and her husband, Michael, together. Michael began sketching a dog and showed it to Kate. Kate insisted that he was sketching her dog and when he did not believe her, she brought her dog to work to show him. When they started dating and took Juliette out for walks, Juliette had a habit of weaving her leash between Kate and Michael so that they would be closer together. Juliette would always sit at the foot of Michael's drawing table or Kate's computer when they began living together. It was not long after Kate and Michael were married that Juliette passed away in her sleep.
If that was not proof enough that Juliette had a soul, nothing else will convince you.
