The town of Bar Harbor knows how to throw a great party, and the 4th of July is no exception. Locals and visitors alike will enjoy a day of excitement and activities such as the annual Independence Day parade, the Island Arts Association Craft Fair, and of course, fireworks.
The day starts early with a Rotary Club pancake breakfast beginning at 6:00 a.m., followed by the 9:00 a.m. opening of the Craft Fair/Marketplace, showcasing Maine crafts including jewelry, quilts and pottery. Just before 10:00 a.m., meander out toward the center of town and find a good curbside spot to enjoy the parade which will run along Main Street.
At 11:00 a.m. the Rotary Club hosts yet another feasting event -- its annual Seafood Festival, where fresh local lobster, mussels, corn and strawberry shortcake will be enjoyed by all.
A good dose of humor is always appreciated by a fun-loving crowd, and Bar Harbor's local community has plenty of it. Don't miss the Annual Lobster Races, where local businesses pit lobsters against each other in a crawling contest to end all crawling contests.
What better way to cap off a great day than to relax on the Village Green and take in a free outdoor concert. The music runs from 7:30-8:30 and features area musicians -- an annual tradition that's been going on for some 100 years.
As evening approaches, the crowds will anticipate the piece de resistance -- the annual fireworks display on the waterfront, overlooking Frenchman Bay.
