Tomorrow, Saturday, November 7, is Independent Bookstore Day. Make it a point to head to one of Long Island’s fabulous indie book stores and browse the shelves until you find a volume that tickles your fancy. Do your part to keep these amazing stores alive and well, as they add so much to our communities.
Here are a few worth stopping at:
Huntington's Book Revue (313 New York Avenue) has former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee appearing between 6:00 and 7:30 to sign his new book, A Simple Christmas. If you can’t make it Saturday, Tracy Morgan, star of 30 Rock, will be signing his new book on Tuesday, November 10 at 7:30)
The fabulous Canio’s Bookstore (290 Main Street, Sag Harbor 631-725-4926) has a poetry reading scheduled with Maria Terrone and Suffolk County Poet Laureate Tammy Nuzzo-Morgan at 6:00. www.caniosbooks.com
The Dolphin Bookstore in Port Washington is a great place to shop regardless of events. I recommend asking any of the fabulous salespeople for a recommendation, they’ll point you to a book you might never have noticed hidden amidst all the others.
At Rockville Centre’s Happily Ever After Bookshop (221 N Long Beach Rd Rockville Centre, NY 11570), you don’t need an excuse or event to pick up some great children’s books or a book basket for a gift.
So tomorrow (and everyday), make it a point to shop at an independent book store!
