When you honor the seasons, you can't help but slow down. Summer, in particular, means slowing down for many families, as we take a break from the routines and busyness of the school year and enjoy more activities together, often in nice weather.
On the west coast, Summer Solstice actually occurred at 9:45 p.m. last night, marking the longest day of the year. Hopefully, you're already out getting a great head start on a terrific Summer.
If you're seeking a fun group activity to help celebrate the Solstice and welcome Summer, I recommend attending the Muir Woods Park Rangers' Summer Solstice Celebration, which takes place at Muir Beach in Marin County, Sunday, June 21, from 6-9 p.m. Our family has gone to this event many years. It's a wonderful gathering around a bonfire, with songs, stories, drumming, and ritual, all led by the Rangers. The event is for all ages and is free. It's a great way to enjoy the longest day of the year and truly welcome Summer. The celebrating winds down as the first stars come out, and you'll know that Summer has arrived.

This Solstice Celebration occurred earlier today in Maloyaroslavets, Russia, 200 kilometers southwest of Moscow.
