Never been to a spa before?  You’ll want to bring a few things with you for your comfort and convenience.  Read on to keep the stress levels low, after all it is a spa!

The tips listed here are mostly for full service hotel, resort and destination spas, but they can apply to day spas too.  Before your spa visit, check the spa’s website to learn what facilities and amenities will be provided. This will help you know what to bring and what you can leave behind.

  • A small tote bag to carry items from hotel room to spa or from your car to the spa.
  • Workout clothes, including sneakers, if the spa has a fitness center. Most spas with fitness centers provide either bottles water or cups of water. If you want a sports drink, you should bring that with you.
  • A bathing suit is normally required for co-ed water features. If the spa has an outdoor pool, you may want to bring a cover-up as well.
  • Sunscreen if the spa has an outdoor pool, patio or terrace
  • Books and magazines. A spa will often provide magazines of the health and wellness variety..

What to leave behind:

  • Does the spa provides snacks and drinks? Or is food available for purchase at the spa cafe? If so, you can leave those behind too.
  • Valuables, including jewelry and cash. Leave these in your hotel room safe or in the safe at your hotel's front desk.Or better yet, leave them at home. Never leave these in your spa locker - too many people have master key access.
  • Fancy clothing. Dress comfortable for your visit to a spa. Nice yoga pants and a t-shirt or sweatshirt are a great choice.

If you are going to a hotel spa or resort spa, plan to spend some time enjoying the spa features. Relax and linger before and after your treatment. This is really one of the best parts of a luxury hotel or resort spa experience.

When staying at a resort and the spa is located on the property, towels, a robe, spa/sandals, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, hair dryers, razors, some hair products, spray deodorant and other vanity amenities are usually available at most hotel and luxury spas. You can leave these items in your room.
