Step back in time to the Victorian era by touring historic Rockwood Mansion and Gardens on your next vacation outing. Rockwood is an English styled manor home and country estate gardens, built and designed by a Quaker merchant banker named Joseph Shipley. While touring the grounds stop by the Butler’s Pantry inside the mansion museum and arrange a Victorian Tea or attend one of their scheduled themed teas. Not something every vacationer does, yet very memorable for you and your friends or family.

The teas at Rockwood are inspired by the traditional English Teas. Victorian teas are a formal seated function with a buffet of finger type foods. Take the time, and spend a day at Rockwood dressed in lacy, flowing outfits with hats. Tour the mansion to set the flavor of the tea, and then settle in to the charm and elegance of an afternoon of tea, finger sandwiches, scones, and sweets. The teas at Rockwood are served on fine china and teacups. Play hostess by pouring out tea from a china teapot.

Although the year, Rockwood hosts theme teas at $25 per person. Reservations are required, and the tour of mansion museum is included in the price. The holidays inspire these theme teas, such as the Valentine Tea in February, Mother Day Tea in May, Ghost tea in October, Harvest Tea in November, and the Holiday Tea in December. There are also summer Ladies Garden teas, complete with Victorian games like croquet.

The Children’s Teas are designed special for kids to enjoy. The teas have special kid’s menus that run about $15 per person. Menus include tea sandwiches, cupcakes, cookies, fruit and lemonade or weak tea. Of course, an adult must accompany a child, making the tea great fun for the entire family. The teas have themes, such as back to School in September, Teddy Bear Picnic teas with storytelling, and a girl’s Garden Hat Teas with Victorian games and bonnet decorating.

For more information or reservations, call 302/761-4340 at the Mansion. The Rockwood mansion is located at 610 Shipley Rd, Wilmington, DE 19809.
