Hello Kitty birthday celebrations and toy-making with Buff Monster

Buff Monster, one of the more popular exhibitors at Sanrio's Three Apples Hello Kitty Exhibit, held a very exclusive and intimate toy workshop in celebration of Hello Kitty's 35th anniversary this past Sunday. 15 lucky students were able to create their own one-of-a-kind Hello Kitty figurine with Buff Monster's help. The always amiable Buff Monster showed students how to paint and decorate Hello Kitty figurines using his personal acrylic paints and an assortment of hand-picked jewels, feathers, and glitter.
Want to make your own Hello Kitty figurine but couldn't sign up for Buff Monster's way-too-exclusive workshop? Here's what you need:
- Hello Kitty Paint Your Own Bank (yes, this is the one they used in Buff's toy workshop)
- acrylic paints
- glitter, feather, jewels, etc.
And Buff Monster's most important art advice of the day? Every artist should always have a good, trusty, blowdryer on hand! Buff himself has his blowdryer decked out with a super kawaii face which was used to help students dry their Hello Kitty figurines in the one hour workshop.
Check out Buff Monster's Hello Kitty art at Sanrio's Three Apples Exhibit in Culver City. Buff Monster will also be releasing limited edition t-shirt prints of his Hello Kitty pieces. Buff Monster did two exclusive pieces for the exhibit - one with Hello Kitty celebrating the power of the color pink and another piece (my personal favorite) composed of 35 squares of alternating Hello Kitty images. Buff Monster, who has been a Hello Kitty fan ever since his childhood in Hawaii, spent the day at Hello Kitty's birthday party chatting with fans, eating Hello Kitty food, passing out his signature stickers, and celebrating Kitty! He's a total sweetheart; don't hesitate to say hi if you see him at the exhibit! You can even meet the artist himself (and many exhibitors!) this Saturday at Three Apples "Meet the Artists" party.
