51 students at the University of Pepperdine School of Law who are spending the summer doing public interest work will also benefit from a stipend. Comming from various sources at the law school, giving for this public interest work has amounted to over $122,000. Although many of the 51 students will be involved in local public interest efforts, a handful of them will be traveling as far as Uganda, Rwanda, Thailand, and Belize.

How do you gather $122,000 for public interest stipends? Pepperdine did it with the generosity groups and individuals related to the law school, such as the student group Advocates for Public Interest Law, the Dean's Excellence Fund, the Herbert and Elinor Nootbaar Institute on Law, Religion, and Ethics and the University's Lilly Endowment. Let's not forget alums. Michael Bidart also gave $50,000 to further the public interest work of these law students.
