Savannah Outen Rocks Philly

Don’t compare Savannah Outen to
Miley Cyrus. Ok, so she never requested that, but I am going to speak for her on this one. The singer is a diamond in the rough compared to that Hannah Montana girl. Savannah is sweet, she is motivated, she is sincere, and mostly, she is talented.
So who is she, you ask?
Savannah Outen is a girl from Oregon with a huge voice. A voice that is more
Christina Aguilera and Celine Dion than Britney or those lame teeny bopper starlets they manufacture every few years on the
Disney Channel. She posted a few videos on
MySpace and
YouTube and has become an international sensation ever since. Her songs, ironically played on
Radio Disney, are really very good compared to the pop trash that her peers put out, and she is getting better with each new song she comes out with.
I got a chance to meet and interview Savannah this past weekend when she came to Philly as the opener to the “
Nat and Alex Wolff Fully Clothed Tour”. Those Nat and Alex Wolff boys are more commonly known as “
The Naked Brothers Band” and can be seen on
Nickelodeon and for all of the parents reading this whose kids watch that show, I feel your pain. I had to spend my one free weekend day in a hot, sweaty
TLA with hundreds of little spawn screaming “I love you Nat” (hehehheheh) giggling uncontrollably. If it weren’t for my adorable nephew Will rocking out to his first concert, I would have gone bananas. (Although, coincidentally, the one song from the Naked Brothers called “Banana Split” was hysterical and even I was shaking it up with the likes of those kiddies).
After trudging up countless staircases, I finally met Savannah. To say she was adorable would be an understatement. She was genuinely sweet and fantastically down to Earth. She signed some posters from a few little girls who were there to see her and then chatted up my nephew, who seemed mesmerized by her, and who wouldn’t be? She’s a cross between
Taylor Swift and a young Celine Dion. Very pretty with the voice of a pro.
For all you music connoisseurs out there, I urge you to try Savannah Outen out. She will be a huge singer one day and you can say you heard her here first. Unlike
Miley,
Selena, or
Demi who are flashes in the pan, Savannah is here to stay.
The Interview
Love your sound! Who inspires you musically?
At 16, how has being on tour affected you?
I get noticed a lot, more than before. But besides that, it’s great. I still stay in touch with my friends and just a couple of weeks ago my parents flew out my best friends Kendra and Jenny for my sixteenth birthday.
What about school?
I am home schooled now so it’s been a lot easier.
What has been the highlight of your career thus far?
Who do you want to want to work with in the future?
Dianne Warren (the famous songwriter) and definitely
Ally & AJ
It’s definitely been crazy, but all my fans are so supportive and I thank them for that. They have made me a success.
Being an international superstar thanks to YouTube and MySpace, how does it feel gaining success on your home turf?
It’s great! I love to travel and would love to go to places internationally to see all of my fans. Starting off here is amazing because I get to see all my fans who support me and motivate me.
In ten years, which artist’s career would you most like to emulate?
That’s easy. Celine Dion. She has an amazing voice and her career is an inspiration. She’s just classy.
If they made a movie about your life, what would the main track of the soundtrack be?
Oh this is a tough one! (thinks for a second) Probably Ally and AJ’s “Chemicals React” or Taylor Swift’s “Forever and Always”.
What do you want to say to all of your fans?
Thank you so much for all of your support, especially online. I will see you soon!
