I don't know about you, but I am always finding things online that I would like to share with friends or even things that I have written like a post here or on another site. But sometimes that can be a pain to do on our social networking sites. Sure there is tinyurl or even bit.ly, But they don't offer the ability to send links and really promote your links at the same time.
That is where su.pr comes in. Su.pr is a URL shortening/sharing service from the great people at stumbleupon.com. For those that aren't aware of stumbleupon, it is a more or less a promotional service of sites. You are able to submit sites to SU, but the real joy comes from stumbling through sites that are matched with interest that you setup when you sign up for an account. You are then able to either thumb up or thumb down the site you are viewing, you even have the ability to review the site to make it more helpful for others. Depending on how you vote depends on how visible the site is to other subscribers of the service.
Now that we have that run down out of the way, lets talk a bit about su.pr! What su.pr allows you to do is take a site you are currently viewing, be it somthing that you just want to share or a post or project that you worked on, and submit it instantly to stumbleupon and share your link with a special short url like http://su.pr/AjszGQ . That is just an example of a link I created to my podcast. But what really makes this useful is the ability to create a message to go along with your link and to post it to your twitter page and facebook page. This is social linking at its greatest!
If you have a blog of your own and are looking for exposure, this is a great tool. It has helped my exposure out greatly. Also if you are a blogger on any site, this is a great way to promote your writing and the site you are writing for. So give it a whirl, and let me know how you are using it.
